For you guys out there that use google voice for your line and outgoing calls, understand that the number google voice uses to route your outgoing call is a land line so those would go against your land line minutes and not cell phone minutes.  I had to sign up for the unlimited minutes plan for $99 because I use google voice for all of my outgoing calls (because I have two numbers and need to use the google voice number).

EDIT:

So I've been doing some reading on some other forums and I noticed Verizon used to offer something called "Pick 3" for $5.00 extra per month.  It would allow you to pick 3 numbers you call the most.  Does anyone know if they still offer this?  With the "any mobile anytime" plans? If so this would be HUGE for me.  I was going to call them tomorrow to find out

EDIT

I called Verizon and talked to a rep and they transferred me to the retention area.  They added the "Pick 3" to my account for $5.00.  Now instead of paying $99 per month I'm paying $74.99.   I added my google voice number and the outgoing google number that google voice calls.  This is awesome!

This should help:

I would assume since you just got your invitation, you probably don't have any to give out.

People have tried this in the past and the carrier eventually caught on to it...  Not sure how long it will take Verizon to catch on!

BTW - (and don't be afraid to answer a stupid question with a stupid answer Wink) - but you said that you added the "outgoing google number"..  What # are you referring to?

When you use google voice and make an outgoing call the phone routes your call through a google voice number before connecting you to the other party.  The other party still sees your caller id, it just routes through this google number.  That is the "outgoing" number I added to my "pick 3" with Verizon so all of my outgoing calls are free.

So, I finally got my Google Voice invite but I was wondering which is more beneficial, because it seems like they give you one of 2 choices.

Either use GV with your mobile phone

OR

Get a GV number

Which is better?  You can't have both?

I haven't done anything yet so I figured I'd ask first before doing anythiing.    Huh?

EDIT:

I went with the GV # because it had more features plus it had the number I wanted.  wink

If you choose the Google Voice number you have more features you can use like SMS and other things. It also has all the features the other option has.

Google voice uses different numbers to route your call. So you adding 1 number to your pick 3 doesn't mean too much...
if you make multiple calls, look in your call history and you will notice it at times uses different numbers.

It's funny because I've had my Google Voice account since January and just today I actually got some invitations that I can give out for the first time. I don't get why they gave me 3 invitations the same day they made it available to everyone anyway.
